Mac Look In A Box - Be Sweet & Dreamy: Review

Mac Look In A Box Be Sweet and Dreamy review

I'll be totally honest and say that I don't own a lot of Mac makeup - a few lipsticks and some strobe cream was all that I had until I came across this set on Matte To Metallic's Snapchat and it was love at first sight. I had heard that Mac did these Look In A Box sets quite often, and this one was right up my street in terms of colours and the product selection. So today I thought I would go through the contents of the box with you and share my thoughts!

This is the Mac Look In A Box Set in Be Sweet & Dreamy and it is a neutral-toned face kit containing various full-sized products to help you achieve almost a complete makeup look. In the box was:

- Matte Lipstick in Kinda Sexy.
- Cream Colour Base in Treat Me Sweet.
- Powder Blush in Prism.
- Eye Kohl Liner in Costa Riche.
- In Extreme Dimension Lash Mascara.
- Eyeshadow Duo : Sweetums and Head Over Heels.

I've used Mac's matte lipsticks before - my all-time favourite shade being another nude, Honey Love - so I knew what to expect with these. As always, this has great pigmentation and is matte without being drying on the lips. And it's in a gorgeous warm-toned nude which will suit lots of different complexions.

Cream Colour Base in Treat Me Sweet.

This is a cream highlighter or strobing cream in a gorgeous pale gold with a shimmer running through it. I haven't used this yet as it is quite shimmery for daytime in the office but it will be beautiful on the cheekbones to add a dewy glow, especially for the summer months.

Powder Blush in Prism.

Confession time - I have never owned a Mac blusher until now. I would imagine that there aren't many beauty bloggers out there who can say that! This one is a really flattering pinkish brown and will probably double as a bronzer and blush for some. I have used this in the same way as I use my bronzer but not for contouring, and if you use a light hand, it gives a really pretty flush to the cheeks that looks quite natural. I have a feeling this may become my holy grail blusher!

Eye Kohl Liner in Costa Riche.

I believe that this liner can't be bought on its own in Mac retail outlets so I was delighted to see this in the kit. It impressed me so much that it is in my March favourites already. Brown eyeliner is so flattering for a day time look - either on the lash lines or in the waterline - to define without looking too harsh. If you haven't tried a brown kohl liner, then you should definitely try one out - especially if you have blue eyes!

In Extreme Dimension Lash Mascara in Black.

I'm always on the hunt for impressive mascaras. This one is meant to add intense volume, length and curl to lashes without  clumping. They claim "extreme dimension that won't smudge, clump or flake". I haven't tried this yet as I don't want to have too many mascaras on the go at once. You should really only use each mascara for a few months to avoid spreading bacteria so I won't give this one a try just yet. I look forward to trying it out though!

Eyeshadow Duo - Sweetums and Head Over Heels.

Sweetums is a pearl champagne shade and Head Over Heels is a matte cool-toned mid brown shade. The pale shade is perfect all over the lid either on its own or as a base for a more intense look. Head Over Heels works well in the crease to add definition and it can be built up for an intense smokey eye or used lightly for a more subtle daytime look. As usual with Mac shadows, the pigmentation is super and the little palette will be great for travelling or doing make up on the go as well.

My final thoughts?

I'm so glad that I decided to pick this up. I don't buy a whole lot of higher end makeup to be honest - except for a few products that I've been loyal to for many years - but this may have re-kindled my love affair with Mac! Not only that, but the entire set is incredible value as you get all full-sized products for €59. Considering that each lipstick costs around €20, the blushers €24 and the Colour Base is €19 for example, to buy the whole lot separately would cost you over €100 so the set is a massive saving. Also, I do think that it would cater for various different skintones. I would definitely recommend keeping an eye out in store for these Look In A Box sets if you are looking to experiment with Mac products, or with makeup in general, but without the hassle of deciding what will go with what.

Where can you buy this beaut?

I bought mine online at where I believe it is now out of stock - but it is still available at The Loop at Dublin Airport here and may be still available in Mac stores. But they are limited edition so if you're interested I wouldn't wait too long!

How do you feel about Mac makeup? What are your favourites of their products? Do let me know in the comments below :)

  1. These boxes sound amazing and you get so many lovely bits in there! I especially love the look of that lipstick. X

  2. I would definitely purchase a set like this. Like you, I only own a couple of Mac lipsticks at the moment - no other products, but this is a great way to try them out. Also Kinda Sexy and the blush look right up my street x
