What's In My Makeup Bag

What's in my makeup bag

Isn’t it funny that no matter how much makeup we have, there are always a few favourites that we reach for without thinking and end up using nearly every day? I only have one face and I readily admit that I have too much makeup – if there is such a thing! I try to rotate what I use so that nothing goes to waste – and if I don’t use something, I will pass it onto a friend or family member who I think would like it. However I have a few products that I reach for if I don’t have time to think about what goes on my face – especially on weekday mornings – so I thought I would share those with you. I love seeing what’s inside others’ makeup bags so inspired by some posts I’ve read recently, here are my “go-to” products!

Flormar Double Radiance Primer.

Flormar Double Radiance Primer

The two primers that I reach for most in my drawer are this one from Flormar and the Miracle Primer from Primark. Both are very different but I use this Flormar one if I feel like my skin needs a bit of a lift and a bit of glow under my foundation. As I've been battling a cold and flu lately, I reached for this a lot to bring some life back to my face. It gives a beautiful slightly bronze glow to the skin - as long as you use a light hand for daytime. I know I've raved about this before in a review post but I still can't recommend it highly enough. It is priced at €12.99 and available from selected pharmacies.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

If you’ve been following me on Instagram for any length of time you’ll know by now that this is my holy grail foundation. It’s rare that I repurchase a product these days – and other bloggers may relate to that!- but this is the third bottle I’ve bought of this. It’s a full-coverage, long lasting foundation and covers up any blemishes and the redness I’m prone to on the cheeks without having to pile on a load of concealer on top of it. My shade is Ivory Nude - and I would normally go for "porcelain" or "ivory" shades in other brands. It’s not cheap but for me it’s worth the price as otherwise I end up trying out 2 or 3 drugstore foundations and most of them end up not comparing to this so they go to waste! I usually buy mine from Arnotts online as I've already been colour-matched for the shade but if you are buying a foundation for the first time, make sure you go to a counter to get matched for your ideal shade.

I do however have a couple of affordable foundations that I use as well when this is running out and it’s still a long way to pay day – the Catrice HD foundation, Rimmel Match Perfection and Bourjois City Radiance.

Essence Lash Princess Falsh Lash Effect Mascara.

Essence Lash Princess Falsh Lash Effect Mascara

I discovered this Essence mascara in a past Glossybox and since lost it without having gotten much use out of it. I was reminded of it a few months ago by Lisa's Lifestyle Blog and so I had to pick up another one! It’s one of the most underrated mascaras in my opinion. It gives amazing length and definition without clumping or flaking and a few people have commented on my lashes since I started using it again! At a tiny price of around €4.00 it’s a steal in my opinion and well worth trying out. It also comes in a waterproof version if that’s your preference. You can find Essence Cosmetics in Penneys/Primark stores and in selected pharmacies nationwide.

Primark PS Felt Tip Eyeliner.

Again, another regular in my makeup of the day posts on Instagram and a product I have repurchased a few times now. The felt tip on this Primark eyeliner is great if you don’t have the steadiest hand for gel eyeliner but still want the same look. It’s also really quick and easy to apply, creates a decent black line and doesn’t budge all day. And it definitely won’t break the bank either at €2.00!

H&M Bronzer.

H&M Bronzer Universal Mocha

I picked up a few products from the H&M beauty range a while back after reading a post by one of my favourite bloggers, Josie from Fashion Mumblr, and I’m really impressed with it. I don’t contour with it but just add a little to my face to warm it up and it has a very subtle shimmer too. You need to use a light hand with it as it is very pigmented but this shade Universal Mocha is perfect for paler skin tones – not orange at all and gives enough warmth to my pale face. It’s also affordable at €7.99 and I love the Tom Ford inspired compact it comes in.

Makeup Revolution Radiant Lights powder in Exhale.

Makeup Revolution Radiant Lights Exhale

I’ve mentioned this product in a few other blog posts – my Best of Makeup Revolution in particular – and it’s another staple in my makeup bag. If you are looking for a subtle highlight – think the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders but without the price tag – then this is for you.
It comes in three shades individually and I also have the palette containing all 3 but this one - Exhale - is my favourite shade and so soft and velvety on the skin. It’s perfect for the days when you want a little highlight and glow without being too sparkly.

Freedom Makeup Brow Pomade.

Freedom Brow Pomade Browcote Blank Canvas E38

I know, I’m always going on about this brow product too. You can read more about it in my eyebrow routine post but it’s still a firm favourite in my makeup bag. Used with my trusty Blank Canvas Cosmetics E38 brush, it’s quick and easy to add shape and definition to the brows and the only other thing to do is comb through with a spoolie and apply some of this clear brow gel from Browcote or else some Benefit Gimme Brow to keep them in place.

Stila Eyes Are The Window Soul Eyeshadow palette.

Stila Eyes are the window palette

This was one of my first “YouTube made me buy it” products. This Stila palette contains the perfect mix of warm and cool neutrals in both mattes and shimmers. I had neglected it of late but a few weeks ago I rekindled my love for it and I’ve been using it almost every day for work since. The shadows work great either on their own for a simple wash of colour – which is all I have time for most days – or to create a more defined, stronger or smokey eye too. And the pretty packaging helps too – it feels like a little daily luxury!

Nars Blusher in Orgasm.

Nars blusher Orgasm

This Nars blusher is such a cult product and I can see why. The rose gold-toned shade can be used lightly for a subtle blush or layered if you want more intensity. The light shimmer also gives a pretty sheen to the cheeks too without being glittery. This is only a mini sized version from a limited edition Nars/Glossybox collaboration but I would definitely repurchase if I ran out. (I’ve been told by those in the know that Sleek’s blush in Rose Gold is very similar but worth investigating an affordable option!)

Catrice All Matt Plus Shine Control Powder.

Catrice All Matt Powder

This was a bit of an impulse purchase in my local pharmacy a couple of weeks ago when I dropped my other pressed powder and smashed the remaining contents. This budget powder does the job of setting my foundation and keeping shine at bay. My only complaint is that it doesn’t have a mirror inside but I do have a different powder in the handbag for on the go touch-ups anyway. For €3.99 it is another steal! You will find Catrice Cosmetics in Penneys/Primark stores and in selected pharmacies nationwide. This one is the shade 010 - Transparent.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in the shade Perla.

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick - Perla

The Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks are some of the best matte liquid lipsticks I’ve tried. They aren’t drying on the lips like some matte lip products can be and they have great staying power – maybe not all day for the pale shades I’ve used especially as I’ve currently got a cold so it gets wiped off pretty quickly. However on a normal day, I don’t have to touch it up til lunchtime which is good enough for me. I don’t usually use a liner if I’m short of time but they last even longer with a liner underneath. This one is a gorgeous cool nude with a pink hue to it and I have two other darker shades in the same range for more of a statement lip.

So that’s everything in my current makeup bag when I need to get ready in a hurry. What are your makeup bag staples? Do let us know!
