Glossybox UK February 2017 - Review

Glossybox UK February 2017

With Valentine's Day approaching, it was quite likely that this month's Glossybox would have a Valentine's or love-related theme. They have gone for a collector-edition box in a monochrome and pink design with "LOVE" in big pink letttering on the front and have included a selection of beauty products that we might use for either a hot date or a pamper night in on the 14th.. So let's find out if we really were in for a treat..

Every month, Glossybox show some "sneak peeks" or previews on their website and social media of what is going to be included in the next box, and although I had seen these, I knew the Irish box would be slightly different. Due to postage restrictions, certain products can't be shipped here - including the rather pretty-looking Rose perfume and Ciaté nail polishes which were to be among the contents of the UK boxes. I know that's the law and not Glossybox but sometimes we really do get shortchanged in Ireland as a result. First world problems though I guess!

The first product in the box seems to be common across both Irish and UK boxes and it is this:

La Theorie Des Volcans Noir Eternae Youth Potion Face Scrub.

Theorie de Volcans Face Scrub

This appears to be a 2 in 1 face mask/scrub that you rub into the skin to slough off dead skin cells and then leave on as a mask. It contains volcanic paste, which is apparently an ancient beautifying ingredient, and it is vegan-friendly and contains no parabens or silicones. Also, according to the tube, 90% of the ingredients are from natural origins. It is meant to be used once or twice a week on cleansed skin to remove impurities, plump and smooth the skin. It smells gorgeous too - maybe down to the Mullein Flower and Lingonberry Extract that it contains. I will definitely give this a go and keep you posted on social media. This is a full-product - although small at 30ml in my opinion - and retails for £26.

Figs & Rouge Hydra-Activ Smart Nutrient Vital Moisture Day Cream.

Figs & Rouge Hydra Active Day Cream

Next we have a moisturising day cream containing vitamins A,C and E as well as hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is big news in skincare at the moment and it is said to have powerful anti-ageing properties and to be one of the most hydrating ingredients for your skin. This cream is claimed to give lightweight but instant and long-lasting hydration. I've only tried hand creams from this brand until now so I'm curious to see what their skincare is like. This is a 20ml tube which is a decent sample size considering the full-sized version is a 50ml tube and would cost around €35. (It is currently on 20% off at but the full price is €35.84). As with the face mask, I will let you know how I get on with this one. I have tested on my hands and it does feel really soft and non-greasy with a very light floral type fragrance.

MeMeMe Cosmetics Beat The Blues Liquid Illuminator in Oyster Gold.

MeMeMe Cosmetics Beat the Blues Oyster Gold

This is a liquid illuminator with light-reflecting pigments to create a dewy finish and glow. The colour is called Oyster Gold but it's a cooler-toned as opposed to "yellow" gold so I think it will suit a variety of skin tones. It reminds me of Benefit's High Beam and in fact the colour is probably a cross between Benefit's High Beam and Sun Beam highlighters. It is rather sparkly so a little of this will go a long way. You could also mix it in with your foundation to give an overall boost of radiance instead of highlighting certain points like cheekbones or under the brows. This is a full size product which retails for £7.25. I haven't seen this brand in many stores in Ireland but my local pharmacy did in fact stock this brand up to maybe 6 months or so ago but you can find out more on their website

Garnier Ultimate Blends Honey Treasures Strength Restorer Balm.

Garnier Ultimate Blends Honey Treasures Face Mask

This is a hair mask containing another popular beauty ingredient right now, honey or bee propolis as it is also called. It's an intensive treatment for damaged hair and is said to leave the hair nourished and glossy and is to be used like most other hair treatments - apply to shampooed hair, leave on for a few minutes then rinse off. I'm notoriously bad at using hair treatments so I really should make the effort more and this will be going on the bathroom shelf and I will try to give it a go soon. I've used a few body products from the Ultimate Blends range and all of them were impressive so I have high hopes for this too!

Rodial Smokey Eye Pen.

Rodial Smokey Eye Pen

This is a black kohl eyeliner with apparently rich pigments to create a long-lasting gel-like effect.
To be honest, this is my least favourite item in the box and the one that I'm actually a little disappointed in. We received one of these in a previous box, and I still have it in my stash somewhere. I feel like this was a product that was just quickly thrown into the Irish boxes as an afterthought to replace one of the products that couldn't be shipped here. Sorry Glossybox if that sounds harsh but I like to be upfront with you all!

Glossybox UK Valentines box 2017

Overall, this month's Glossybox is mostly impressive - aside from the eyeliner. And I do also think that a little extra "Valentines-y" touch like a little heart-shaped sweet or something like that would have given customers a little something more to smile about. Sometimes it's the little things that keep us happy!

Did you receive the February Glossybox? Was yours the same as mine or different? Let me know what you thought of it either way!

  1. Great post Claire and I am loving the new layout xx bummer about the nail polishes and perfume!

    1. Thanks Yvonne! I guess that's the luck of the draw - sometimes we do unfortunately miss some good products though!
