Tanya Burr Soft Luxe Collection Review

Tanya Burr Cosmetics Soft Luxe Collection

Any Tanya Burr fans out there will be familiar with her as a Youtube sensation and blogger who has quite literally made an empire for herself between 3.5 million subscribers, 2 books and a cosmetics range under her belt.
I love watching her makeup tutorials and beauty favourites videos in particular but as I am a bit nosey by nature I do watch her daily vlogs too from time to time. Perhaps not as well known is that she is a trained makeup artist as well so I guess a makeup line was a natural progression for her. In 2014 she launched the first products in her makeup line Tanya Burr Cosmetics, and in June of this year, she expanded on that range with her Soft Luxe Collection. This range is all about neutral, romantic shades of eyeshadows, matte lips and matte nails and all come in pretty, muted packaging.
If you follow me on Instagram, you will know that I’ve been lusting after some of the Soft Luxe range for a while, and since Superdrug stores are super limited in Ireland, I decided to pick up a few bits online from Feel Unique instead. So, onto the products I chose!

Eyeshadow palette in Enchanted Dream.

Tanya Burr Cosmetics Enchanted Dream Eyeshadow Palette

This palette contains four eyeshadows with shades that would probably suit a lot of skin tones. “Moonlit Walk” is a shimmery champagne shade, which you can use on the lid for a neutral base or wash of colour or in the inner corners of the eyes as a highlight.

“Berry SoufflĂ©” is a matte warm brown with a hint of rust to it which can be used either all over the lid or as a subtle crease shade.

“ Cocoa Plum” is a shimmery milk chocolatey colour, perfect for the crease area.

Lastly, “Magic Carpet” is a matte dark chocolatey shade with a hint of plum, if that makes sense.

The packaging is pretty standard for this type of palette with the heavy cardboard and it has a cute little heart shaped mirror inside. I’m glad actually that she didn’t bother to include a mini brush as I tend not to use the ones that come with palettes and they are fiddly and tend to fall out of the palette every time you open it! The first time I used these, I wasn’t overly impressed with the pigmentation, I must admit. I was decidedly underwhelmed and after watching Tanya’s tutorial on a makeup look using this palette, I was left wondering how she managed to get those results with it. Was it all down to having a professional technique (or not,  in my case!)? Was it good lighting? Or was it simply good genes? I decided that I wasn’t going to be defeated so I gave it another go later in the week.

Second time round,  I sprayed my eyeshadow brush with my Makeup Revolution Fixing Spray and then put Berrry Souffle all over the lid. This definitely made a difference to the pigmentation and the density of colour. The first time, I couldn’t notice the shimmer in the eyeshadow at all, but using the spray, the colour and the shimmer came up way better on the skin. The same applied with the other two shadows when I added them to the crease area. I then used a smaller brush to apply Moonlit Walk to the inner corners and overall the results were way better.

Granted, you shouldn’t have to do this with an eyeshadow if the quality is good enough, but at least this way I’m not wasting my euros by not bothering to use them! Would I buy another eyeshadow palette from her range? I would try one more perhaps for research purposes :) The shades in this really are lovely provided you put in the effort with them and it did only cost me €7.68.

Matte Nail polishes.
Tanya Burr Soft Luxe Matte Nail Polishes

Feel Unique deliveries to Ireland are notoriously slow and seeing as they come from Jersey, they are at risk of being stopped by Irish Customs too on arrival which delays matters even further. So I thought that since I was only planning to place one order on a once-off, that I would pick up each of the matte polishes. The packaging on these is lovely, with the frosted glass bottles and the matte gold lids. These cost €6.39 each.  The shades are as follows:

These are all lovely, subtle shades and the matte quality makes a nice change. Some matte polishes can look quite cheap or chalky but these look very subtle and elegant on. My nails are rather brittle and short at the moment so please excuse that I haven't shown you what they look like on the nails in the pictures! These shades are great if like me you want to add some colour to your natural nails without drawing too much attention to them. At the moment, I’m giving the false nails a break to give my nails a chance to strengthen up a bit so these are great. I would definitely recommend these.

Matte Liquid Lipstick in Rhubarb and Custard.

Tanya Burr Soft Luxe Matte Lip Rhubarb and Custard

This is available in three different shades – Martha Moo (after Tanya’s puppy), Rhubarb and Custard and Puppy Paws. Uncharacteristically for me, I went for Rhubarb and Custard which is a bright coral-ly pink shade – not dissimilar to the colour of those sweets of the same name from my childhood! I decided I should go for something that was out of my nude lip comfort zone and actually I really like this shade!

They do take about 4 or 5 minutes to fully dry on the lips so you have to  be a little bit patient, but once dry they they are totally matte and the colour deepens a little. It definitely looks more toned-down on the lips than on the swatch which helps when you're someone who never strays from a nude pink or brown! My only issue is that it will be quite difficult for me to find a lipliner to match in my current collection so it looks like I need to hit the shops and bring the lipstick with me to match it up. This is in terms of consistency, finish and staying power, very similar to the Sleek Matte Me Lip creams that I'm already a fan of. These will set you back €7.67 on Feel Unique.

So that's a roundup of everything I picked up. Have you tried any of Tanya's existing range or the new range yet? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Bye for now,
