Review: Birchbox UK and Irl March 2016

Hello all,

Hope you had a lovely St. Patrick's Day whatever you got up to :) Little Man went to his first parade today- only a small local one but good fun all the same!

Anyways, onto today's topic. You may or may not be aware that Birchbox is now shipping to Ireland as of  February 2016 and us beauty enthusiasts were very excited about this new arrival from across the pond. Ireland are often the last to see any new beauty releases and in some cases new products don't even make it to our market here but that's another topic!

I didn't get on the case in time to receive the February Birchbox but I did manage to subscribe in time for the March edition which arrived in the post yesterday.  For the purpose of this review I will try to avoid comparing it to the other subscription box that I am signed up for and I'll focus on my first impressions of this company and their offering.

The first thing I noticed was the neat size of the box - it's probably about A5 sized - and the contents come in a little drawstring pouch. This pouch will be really handy to have for storing various different things in my opinion. I think it will be really useful if you want to discreetly carry your "lady items"in your handbag, carry a few items of makeup in your handbag, snacks for a hangry toddler when out and about etc.

So, onto the contents of the box. The first item is from a brand unknown to me already called The Beauty Protector and it's a hand and body cream. I rather like this already. It smells like marshmallows and vanilla and absorbs quickly into the skin. I don't actually know what it contains as there's nothing on the bottle itself and these boxes don't come with an information/product card but whatever it is is lovely.

Next up is ProGenius facial treatment oil from the brand Nude. Again, a new discovery for me but it is described as created with a blend of pure Omega oils, no parabens, sulphates and other unpopular ingredients. It claims to be instantly absorbed into the skin to give a beautiful, dewy complexion. Facial oils are extremely popular these days and I have yet to find "the one" for me so I will give this a try perhaps at nightime after a face mask and see how it goes.

The next item in the line-up is a Comforting Scrub Mask for the face from a french brand called Douxme which is a newbie for me too. It contains marshmallow, rice powder and apricot oil and the scrub particles are quite small which will make it a bit gentler on the skin I suspect. There are no instructions on the tube but the Birchbox website says that it can be used as a mask but also as an exfoliator and they recommend  to use it once or twice a week.

The next item is the one item that I actually recognise! Yay! It is a brow gel called More Brows from the brand ModelCo. I have this product from another past subscription box and in fact I use this every day and would really recommend it. It works in a similar way as Benefit's Gimme Brow, to thicken, define and darken your eyebrows with a small mascara-type wand. But it is a fraction of the price of the Benefit version...

The other make up item in the box was Arrow Boost Colour Enhancing lip balm. This is a Birchbox brand so again I haven't had the chance to try this before. The lip balm claims to work with your lips PH to enhance your own lip colour. If this works it will be great for on the go and throwing on throughout the day if you don't have time to reapply lippie. I will be trying this very soon!

The final item this month is a sachet of a reconstructing hair masque from the brand No4 which is another new discovery. This is said to be a very concentrated treatment formula that (used sparingly) will infuse the hair with moisture and protein. Sadly I don't have time to use hair treatments as often as I should but I will leave this one in the bathroom and try and remember to give it a go during the weekends.

Overall I'm impressed with Birchbox so far. For me, the purpose of these boxes is to try out new beauty products, make up etc from brands that you don't find easily in your local pharmacy or department store and this box has achieved this for me this month. Keep up the good work Birchbox!

Have any of you signed up for Birchbox yet? If so, leave your thoughts in the comments below :)

Bye for now,
C xx
