30 Week Pregnancy Update

It's been a few weeks now since my last post - sorry about that!- but between one thing and another I haven't had much time lately to sit down and write even though I have all these great ideas in my head! There's going to be a lot of organising and tasks to be done over the next few weeks, but before I get into all of that, I thought it was about time I wrote another pregnancy update.

As you can tell by the post title, I'm 30 weeks into this pregnancy now - 30 weeks and 4 days to be exact - so the third trimester has finally arrived. This last trimester brings a few new symptoms, a few new challenges, and a whole lot of work to be done!

It also means more hospital and GP visits as you need to be seen every two weeks at this point. I chose the option of Combined Care for my ante-natal care, which means you alternate visits between your GP and the hospital. I went for the same option first time around which helped to reduce the amount of time spent at appointments - at least every second one anyway - and my GP is located much closer to where I live and work than the hospital.

Food and Food Aversions.

Ice Lolly Play Rocket Ice Lolly Ice Lolly

There hasn't been a huge amount of change since my last pregnancy update. Heartburn is still a regular feature - if not even more frequent. It's even been striking in the middle of the night which is strange as obviously I'm not eating in my sleep! This means that foods with lots of sauces are still a bit of a no-no most of the time. The heat wave we've had lately has led me to develop a bit of a love for ice pops - namely the Rocket lollies from Dunnes. I tell myself I buy them for little man but half the time I end up hiding them from him and eating them in secret myself haha. I'm also still taking the Pregnacare Plus supplements after my main meal in the evening.

In addition to this, after a recent, thankfully short, stay in hospital, it was discovered that I was also anaemic. I'm now also taking Galfer iron supplements twice a day - one in the morning and one at nighttime. It was a bit of a surprise to me as I had thought I was eating enough iron-rich foods but clearly I wasn't. To bring this iron level back up the midwives recommended I increase my intake of red meat (so long as it is lean) and leafy green veg and to up my Vitamin C intake too as this will help the body absorb the iron. I'm not a huge fan of red meat but I've been swapping our usual homemade turkey burgers for beef ones instead and using lean beef for curries instead of chicken which adds a couple of extra portions to my red meat quota in the week.

Beauty and Skincare.

Primark PS Primer Water

Thankfully, the breakouts that I mentioned in my last post have still stayed away for the most part and my skincare routine has remained the same. I'm almost out of my Mama Bee Belly Butter so I will be stocking up on this soon. In this warm weather I've been reaching for my Penneys Primer Water a lot more - not just as a primer before makeup but to cool myself down when the hot flushes strike!

The Growing Bump.

According to the hospital, the bump is growing as it should and by now Baba weighs approximately 3 pounds. I've definitely noticed a growth spurt in the last couple of weeks and everything definitely feels "heavier" if that makes sense. Right now, I feel more like Gloria the hippo from Madagascar than a glowing Mum to be :)

I've also been feeling much stronger movements in the last week or two - and I think there must be a future Katie Taylor or Anthony Joshua in there sometimes the punches are that intense! I know the movements are a good sign but sometimes it catches me by surprise - especially when you can see the movement from the outside too.

Getting Organised.

There's a lot happening in our household in the next couple of months - with the Baba's arrival and with Little Man starting primary school - so I'm trying to get ahead of the game as much as I can with all of the preparations for both in case Baba decides to make an appearance any earlier than planned. I'm also making plans in work for my maternity leave so between all of that and a four year old in the house too you can see why I haven't had much time to blog!

I made it my goal to have our hospital bags packed by the end of this month (July) and to have all the baby clothes, sheets, blankets etc that we kept after Little Man washed and ready to go. The tiny sleepsuits and vests are washed and even ironed. Clearly I've been doing some "nesting" already as ironing is probably my least favourite household chore and I try to avoid it whenever possible!

Fifties Black bags

I've a pretty substantial hospital packing list from my own blog post which you can find here. I'm trying to talk myself out of picking up this set of bags from Ulluv but if there's room in the budget at the end of this month I might just treat myself!

I think that's pretty much all I have to share for now - thankfully all is well with the Baba and it is both exciting and nerve wracking that I'm soon to be a Mum of 2! Even Little Man said today that now we are a family of three but soon we will be four (bless him). I'm interested to see whether he's this excited when his little brother or sister actually arrives!

On that note, I'm off to make myself a Horlicks, take my iron tablet and haul myself into bed.. ah it's a glam life I lead...

Bye for now,
